Banting makes history!

Chilli Surfboards would like to throw a big congratulations out to MATT BANTING!
If you have been living under a rock for the past week, we will fill you in.... Matt has just made history by becoming the first person ever to win a Pro Junior and 6 Star Mens WQS in the same event!

The Australian Open of Surfing was held at Manly beach over the last week. With unprecedented surfing from Matt, he not only surfed his way through to the finals of the Pro Junior devision, beating fellow Aussie, Tim McDonald. He also surfed his way from round one (no seeding) all the way through to the finals of the mens devision! On the way to the final, he beat the likes of Jordy Smith and delivered the highest heat score for the whole event. All this coming from the ripe old age of a 17 year old! Matt was surfing the new revised STEP DOWN

In the final, Matt beat, American Even Geiselman. He was in the lead from start to finish and never looked like faultering.

Congratulations Matty, we are super proud of you!

The waves on the Northern Beaches of Sydney are usually pretty dismal, fun but summer mush. Cooper and his filmer, Luke Schuetrumpf have worked hard to get these click. Have a look!

New STEP DOWN dimensions

Times are changin' and so is the Step Down...

With the standard shortboard evolving so fast over the last couple of years, we thought it time that the Step Down was revamped! The latest version still holds true to the original. We have beefed it up considerably, allowing the rider to push harder through those fat sections while keeping your speed. Check out the Step Down page for new dimensions and volumes...

One Year On...

Posted on: Wednesday, November 02, 2011

It has been one year since the passing of Andy Irons. Chilli Surfboards would like to take a moment to remember Andy. He was one of the sports greatest ever athletes, along with being one great human. Chilli spent time with Andy and his family in Kuai early last year. He recalls, that he was welcomed into his house as if family himself. This was who Andy was, a genuine legend of our sport and a down to earth guy, treating everyone the same. Our love goes out to Lindy and the Irons family.

Andy, we miss you.

Chilli X Colan

Chilli took a trip out to Colan Australia yesterday. Colan is a international leader in textile manufacturing and the only fiber glass manufacturer within Australia. We have a very close relationship with Colan who produce our very own glass designed specifically for the Chilli range. This glass is not heat treated like most fiber glass. This is great for the strength of our boards, leaving the cloth as strong as possible as well as being a whole lot better for the environment. Here are a few pics Chilli took of the machines in action...

Cooper is the champion!

Posted on: Sunday, October 30, 2011

Cooper Chapman has just taken out the Billabong Pro Junior Asia at Could 9 in the Philippines!

Coops took control of the Final right from the start, earning the highest wave score with his opening ride, a 7.17 From there he didnt let go and commanded the way the heat played out.

"My Pop is really sick at the moment, so I won this event for him!" Chapman said. "They weren’t the best waves in the Final, but I’ll take it. We had good waves earlier in the week so I guess to make it to the Final Oney (Anwar) and I had to prove ourselves in all conditions."

This is the first ASP Pro Junior for 2011/12 year which Cooper is now leading. This is the perfect start for Cooper and we will be watching him throughout the rest of the competition year.

Great work Cooper!!
