SHOW US YA BELLS!

Benny Dunn got beaten in the first round but he still tore Bells apart on his Chilli as he went down. The Rip Curl Pro has kicked off at Bells Beach with the ASP unveiling a new contest format for the event. The new format sees man on man heats from the outset with the top rated surfers automatically seeded into the second round depending on how the went on the tour in 2008. It's a little complicated to explain the new format in detail here in our modest little blog but the ASP site has got a good explanation of the new format. Tomorrow could see the second round get underway and you can watch it all live. Tiago Pires will be riding Chilli sleds in his heat 5 battle royale with 2007 World Champ Mick Fanning. Enjoy the show.

Lovers Land/Swells Angels

Nothing but the open road… and a Chilli A2 of course. Image © D.Hump

Nathan Webster, Jason Salsa Salisbury and Dustin Humphrey are currently thrashing steel horses (courtesy of Deus Ex Machina) up and down the east coast on a mission to round up waves. The three chums set off on their 650's – equiped with board racks and Chilli's – from the big smoke a week ago and have been hunting swell, getting lost, meeting new friends and ripping skids for a book/movie concept by Nudes and Hump. The original name for the trip was going to be "Swells Angels" but admist the current bikie war in Oz and for fear of a run in with the Hells Angels the boys decided to call the trip "Lovers'land". The photos will turn up in Surfing World shortly and there could be a book in the future, but in the meantime you can trace their journey and view surf footage on their blog at loverslandblog.com

THE LADIES MAN

Posted on: Tuesday, March 17, 2009

No photos please… obrigado

Meet Tiago Pires, the best surfer ever to come out of Portugal. And we ain't just saying that because he rides the Chilli's. Tiago's been on tour for a couple of years now and has been fetching some solid results. At the end of last season he blew his neck out pretty badly and missed the Pipe Masters. Unable to surf he took the opportunity to visit some different places and new faces. "I vacationed in Oslo and Moscow," he told us. "Have you been? Oh my god! The women.… I will take you there!" After some major soul repair Tiago began training with the Portugese Rugby Team. These days he's fitter than ever and in Oz gearing up for a big reuslt at Bells Beach where he'll be riding the Chilli Step Down. To learn more about Tiago check out his ASP profile, ladies can find him on myspace.

POSTCARD FROM HANK

Hank got spanked at Pipe.

Our boy Hanky Gaskell has been on the North Shore test driving Chilli's latest designs, qualifying for the Pipe Masters and also trying to breakdance on the reef at Pipe. We thought we'd share his latest email with you…

"Yo Chilli/Taylor, How have you been? All good here. There's been some epic surf this past week on the North Shore. I surfed in the Pipe Masters trials the other day, and made the cut for the comp in December. Pretty stoked on that! I got bounced off the bottom pretty bad in my second last heat though. I almost couldn't even surf in the last round. Luckily for me, Walshy and Healy rousted me pretty good, and Ian told me 'You can walk, you're paddling back out!'. It paid off, and I am healing up on the couch now... Boards are working great! I’ll order some new ones soon. Shoots, hope all is well. – Hank"

GORKIN & BESCHEN FLARE ON CHILLI SURFBOARDS

Posted on: Monday, February 23, 2009

Ever heard of Aaron "Gorkin" Cormican? He's a fisherman from Florida that rides for …Lost [the good people that distribute Chilli Surfboards in the States]. Aside from the whole killing fish thing Gorkin also does some of the finest airs you'll ever see, he's even got his own freaky move called the Gorkin Flip. Former World Number 2 Shane Beschen also pays his rent with …Lost contract dollars. Recently the boys dropped by the …Lost office and picked up some Chilli's to play around on in Hawaii. The footage above suggests they enjoyed em.

Below we tracked down some old Gorkin footage including that marvellous flip that takes place around the 1.31 minute mark. Mental!!!

THE STORY OF MIGUEL, THE GIANT KILLER

Posted on: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Over in his home country of Brazil, Chilli team rider, Miguel Pupo, can't walk down the road to check the surf without four bodyguards. The paparazzi are just too intense. In Australia though, the young goofyfooter can dance about the streets throwing shakkas to passers by without being recognised. It's peaceful here and he likes it. However, on the Australia Day long weekend just gone Miguel exposed himself, after destroying many big names on his way to placing an incredible second behind Owen Wright in the Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior [riding a Chilli FibreFlex]. News of the big result traveled back to Brazil overnight and media outlets there quickly assigned Aussie photogs to trail the poor kids every move. It's been a lovely and competitively successful trip for the young Brazilian but it's time to split to where he kind find a little solace. Congrats, Miguel, and good luck.

CHILLI KIDS TERRORISE GROMSEARCH

Posted on: Monday, January 19, 2009

Coop Chapman better drop and roll to put out the flames because the kid is on fire! A month or so back he became the U16 Aussie Champ. Quite an achievement for a 14 year-old. Coop climbed to the top of the podium again recently, this time to claim the Rip Curl Gromsearch title at Cronulla on Tuesday, January 20. The North Narra grom's been posting some impressive scores lately and even dropped a 9.5 in the final. If you need further proof that Chilli's new Grom Model runs like a dream, young Chilli riders Noa Deane (Coolangatta, QLD) and Tyler Hutchinson (North Narrabeen, NSW) finished second and third respectively behind Coop in the final. Well done boys!
