Banting makes history!

Posted on: Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Chilli Surfboards would like to throw a big congratulations out to MATT BANTING!
If you have been living under a rock for the past week, we will fill you in.... Matt has just made history by becoming the first person ever to win a Pro Junior and 6 Star Mens WQS in the same event!

The Australian Open of Surfing was held at Manly beach over the last week. With unprecedented surfing from Matt, he not only surfed his way through to the finals of the Pro Junior devision, beating fellow Aussie, Tim McDonald. He also surfed his way from round one (no seeding) all the way through to the finals of the mens devision! On the way to the final, he beat the likes of Jordy Smith and delivered the highest heat score for the whole event. All this coming from the ripe old age of a 17 year old! Matt was surfing the new revised STEP DOWN

In the final, Matt beat, American Even Geiselman. He was in the lead from start to finish and never looked like faultering.

Congratulations Matty, we are super proud of you!

5STAR Banting

Everybody loves a little bit of Matt Banting. Here's a short clip surfing mostly the STEPdown in France during KOTG, a bit of home (Port Macquarie) and Manly Beach in our home of Sydney Australia

Enjoy!

Rip Curl held GROMSEARCH event 2 of 7 over October 14-17 in Coffs Harbour NSW, Australia.
The event saw two Chilli team groms Matt Banting & Cooper Chapman ripping over the event.

Bantman opted for the STEPdown scoring himself 1st place & a damn load of Snickers for his troubles

Coop thought he'd try something new he'd been working on with Chilli & managed a well noteable 3rd. Well done boys

In true form all event making it to the semi finals, unfortunately Bantman narrowly missed a place in the final. Being the true sportsman that he is, was gracious in his defeat, commenting after the final, "It was unbelievable, I want to go home to train harder, the two ten-point rides were incredible, I'm really inspired."

I'm sure this experience has fueled his fire... Contenders, be afraid!

Holy Credentials Bantman!

“Yo… Check my credentials… and dat only for 2000 eight… fool!”

Last year alone Super Grom Matt Banting took out 33 consecutive finals. As the banner above states, that’s one even Slater doesn’t have in his resume! Not content with his already long list of accomplishments, Bantman has just bagged the Billabong Occy grom comp at Dbah, Australia for the 2nd year running.

Check out this short clip Matt sent us from a couple of days surfing recently…
Hailing from Port Macquarie on the beautiful mid north, east coast of Australia, Bantman couldn’t be further from Sth Central… He may love Gangsta rap, but we love him anyway.

GORKIN & BESCHEN FLARE ON CHILLI SURFBOARDS

Posted on: Monday, February 23, 2009

Ever heard of Aaron "Gorkin" Cormican? He's a fisherman from Florida that rides for …Lost [the good people that distribute Chilli Surfboards in the States]. Aside from the whole killing fish thing Gorkin also does some of the finest airs you'll ever see, he's even got his own freaky move called the Gorkin Flip. Former World Number 2 Shane Beschen also pays his rent with …Lost contract dollars. Recently the boys dropped by the …Lost office and picked up some Chilli's to play around on in Hawaii. The footage above suggests they enjoyed em.

Below we tracked down some old Gorkin footage including that marvellous flip that takes place around the 1.31 minute mark. Mental!!!

HANK LANDS PAGE ONE OF SURFER

Hank Gaskell is a remarkable human from Hawaii. When he was in Australia he helped Chilli fix his fence. As thanks Chilli shaped him some boards. To return the favour Hank did a huge air and nabbed himself the cover of SURFER Magazine riding one of Chilli’s shapes. Come back anytime, Hank.
