Building on the success of the original Rare Bird, the Rare Bird Evolution takes everything you loved and refines it for an even better surfing experience. James Cheal 'Chilli' has fine-tuned the design to enhance speed, control, and versatility, making it the perfect upgrade for any conditions. Maintaining the single-to-double concave and slight vee through the tail for smooth rail-to-rail transitions, he's also adjusted the outline for increased maneuverability and flow in both small waves and bigger swells. With a slightly more refined rail and a modernized pulled-in thumb tail, the Evolution offers more precision without sacrificing the forgiving nature of its predecessor. The five-fin setup remains, ensuring maximum adaptability, whether you're carving in small surf or tackling overhead barrels.

For the best performance, ride the Rare Bird Evo the same length as your previous version, or 2-4 inches shorter than your standard shortboard. It's the perfect progression between your BV2 and SHORTIE models, delivering more drive, speed, and all-around fun.

OUTLINE: The outline has the same nose profile as the previous version aimed for paddle power and speed in flat/fat surf. The middle section is curvey (nice rail line to turn from) with the wide point slightly more forward than a regular board. Through the tail, we continue the curve into a nice thumb tail which gives the board hold and control through turns.

ROCKER: The board has a medium entry and a medium tail exit. It has a continuous rocker which allows the Rare Bird EVO to hold rail in bigger surf when necessary.

CONTOURS: The bottom contour consists of a single-double-vee bottom, continuing from the original. There has been subtle adjustments under foot to enhance speed in flat sections, yet still have enough hold in bigger surf. A well-balanced and forgiving bottom.

PERFORMANCE: Through the R&D of this model, and through numerous team feedback, the Rare Bird EVO was a fan favourite from the beginning. Being well-rounded and easy to surf in a variety of conditions was the main target for this board and with the 5-fin option, the board is able to be ridden in anything from a high-tide shorey session as a twin + trailer to rippable 3-4 ft points as a thruster, or even putting the quads in to hold tight and perform in hollow, barreling conditions. © Chilli Surfboards
