Standard PU Stringer

This is your most common standard stock surfboard. Using a Polyurethane (PU) South Coast Foam blank with a plywood stringer after shaped it is glassed using a polyester resin with two layers of four ounce fibre glass on the deck and one layer of four ounce fibre glass on the bottom.

Usually added after that some carbon fibre or patches of four ounce fibre glass to wrap around the tail to prevent the rail/tail from crushing or denting severely (commonly known as ‘tail cancer’). You will find most of our surfboards are built using this technology. This technology is great for everyday use and has performance in all types of conditions and wave sizes and levels of surfer.

Team PU Stringer
This is your team/ultra light surfboard. We use this technology for our team riders who like there boards light and very responsive. Using a Polyurethane (PU) Ultra Light (UL) South Coast Foam blank with a plywood stringer after shaped it is glassed using a polyester resin with just one layer of four ounce fibre glass on the deck and one layer of four ounce fibre glass on the bottom. You can custom order this technology in the custom order page. Usually added after that some carbon fibre or patches of four ounce fibre glass to wrap around the tail to prevent the rail/tail from crushing or denting severely (commonly known as ‘tail cancer’). Be sure to select UL in blank and UL glassing specs when filling out a custom order in a shop or on our custom order page. Please be aware this technology is not built for durability, if your heavy footed on your boards, surf heavy conditions or hollow waves please be aware that they can buckle quite easily if you put the board in the wrong part of the wave, fall hard on it etc. On the other side of that, is the performance. Your feel your board noticeably lighter, more responsive through turns and very responsive flex that can add spice to your surfing you thought was never there. Enter at your own risk.

Blank: the core of the surfboard that is shaped
Stringer: plywood in middle of surfboard foam for strength

Expanded Polystyrene / EPS core: a type of surfboard core foam used with epoxy resin
Epoxy resin: resin that is used to laminate either PU or EPS (more commonly EPS) surfboard foam
Polyester resin: resin that is used the laminate PU surfboard foam
Carbon: carbon fibre commonly used for added strength
Fibreglass: a woven fabric that waterproofs a surfboards core when applied with resin
4 oz: the most common strength of fibre glass weave used to waterproof and apply strength to a surfboard, also commonly doubled up for extra strength i.e. 4oz x 4oz
6 oz: the second most common strength of fibre glass weave used to waterproof and apply strength to a surfboard, also commonly doubled up for extra strength i.e. 6oz x 6oz
UL: ultra light, meaning the use of ultra light surfboard foam core or ultra light glassing using 4 layer not 2 layers of fibreglass.
